dry forming

There is a reason we call it

Dry forming is not just about 3D product formation but the whole transformation journey of cellulose fibres within Cellera™. By combining two core technology platforms, airlaid forming of cellulose fibers and 3D product forming, Yangi™ has developed a state-of-the-art machine platform that produces high-performance cellulose-based packaging products that fit into existing recycling systems globally.

Cellulose fibre’s

transformation journey

Our groundbreaking dry forming technology Cellera™ can produce 3D formed packaging directly from cellulose pulp in one machine line at a 30% lower cost than existing  fibre-based solutions, with no process water added and less energy use, resulting in a 75% reduction in CO₂ emissions. Additionally, our solution is designed to ensure streamlined and reliable operation, enabling manufacturers to achieve optimal productivity while maintaining stringent quality standards.

Raw
material

We only select the highest quality virgin-certified cellulose pulp from responsible forestry.

Fibre separation

A mill separates the raw material into individual fibres.

Fibre formation

The fibers are formed into a fluffy pad through an air-laid process without any added water.

Pad
transfer

A unique transfer technology guarantees consistent press input.

Product forming

The pads are thermoformed into 3D-shaped high-quality rigid products.

Final
Product

Edge trimming in separate step to secure repeatable results that meets the highest quality standards.

Cellulose pulp

We only select optimal materials that have been proven to deliver the highest quality dry formed products, such as certified fibres from responsible forestry. We know what material delivers the best results in our technology, and we’ve built strong relationships with material suppliers to ensure optimal performance, availability, and sustainability profile.

Practically speaking, at this stage, the raw material is fed into a mill that separates the fibres, getting it ready for the airlaid formation technology.

The airlaid forming of cellulose fibres technology enables the creation of high-quality cellulose-based packaging materials by ensuring even distribution and interlocking of fibres, resulting in discrete pad formations that generate minimal waste and deliver high-quality, robust products.

Once formed, the pads are then transferred to be 3D formed by a unique technology that ensures accurate pad placement in the press for consistent results.

The 3D pressing technology complements the airlaid forming process by applying pressure and heat to the cellulose fibres, transforming them into a durable and versatile packaging structure. This technique allows for intricate shaping and customisation.

Dry forming offers unique possibilities compared to other cellulose materials in terms of formability, aesthetics, and appearance. When formed, the surface is smooth, and the tactility can range from hard to soft feeling. Patterns inside and outside of the product are possible and create a lot of options for branding.

know-how & expertise

Our team has decades of

It took us years to better understand and develop the optimal way to dry form cellulose fibres in order to guarantee repeatable results that consistently meet the highest quality standards. The Cellera™ technology is designed to produce high-performance cellulose-based packaging products, and with cellulose fibres being the only material that currently fits into existing recycling systems globally, of which more than 70% is recycled and where the fibres can be recycled back more than seven times without comprising on quality, cellulose fibre is the key to more sustainable packaging.
