This has not been a great weekend for MMA. Not only did UFC legend Matt Hughes get airlifted to a hospital after his truck collided with a train, but former UFC heavyweight Tim Hague has been declared brain dead after suffering a knockout loss during a boxing match last night (Fri., June 16, 2017).

Sources close to teammates at the hospital revealed the unfortunate news earlier today, per Mike Russell:

Worth noting: Hague was KO'd April 17 -- less than two months prior to his fight last night. Fight was basically boxing with MMA gloves.

Sportsnet's James Lynch was the first to report Hague’s brain injury, stating that Hague was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit following the knockout loss.
Cody Krahn, a close friend of Hague’s, provided some updated details about the combat sports veteran earlier today:

UFC women’s bantamweight fighter Sarah Kaufman was in attendance and captured the aftermath via Instagram:
Hague, 34, made a move to boxing after suffering a 33-second knockout loss to Michal Andryszak last July in his final MMA appearance. The Canadian veteran compiled a 1-4 record under UFC rule from 2009-2011, with his lone victory coming against Pat Barry via submission. Prior to Friday’s incident, Hague had suffered eight total knockouts throughout his 10-year MMA career.
