Encinitas home of famous online gamer ‘DrDisRespect’ shot at with BB gun

A popular professional gamer who has racked up more than 90 million views on the streaming website Twitch said someone shot at his Encinitas home on Monday and Tuesday, according to authorities and online videos.

The Sheriff’s Department confirmed they responded two days in a row to investigate a reported shooting at a residence in the city.

Someone in the home called 911 about a window of a Porsche sedan that had been shot out about 7:15 a.m. Monday, sheriff’s officials said. The next day, a resident from the same address called about 10:15 a.m. to report another window at the home had been shattered.

Investigators later determined a BB gun was used in the shootings, and suspect those responsible may have fired from a nearby park, Lt. Amber Baggs said.

Guy Beahm, who is better known to his online followers as “DrDisRespect,” was playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 live on Twitch when he abruptly left his seat after more than 3.5 hours of gaming, according to an archived video of the stream.

When he came back he explained he was ending the broadcast early because someone just shot at his house.

“Ladies and gentlemen, ... I’ve got to end the broadcast right now. Someone shot at our house, broke the (expletive) upstairs window,” he said. “This is the second shot. Someone shot yesterday. Someone shot yesterday at our (expletive) house.”

He then called the unknown shooter a derogatory name and signed off.

Sometime later, he posted a message to his Twitch page explaining that proper safety measures were being taken and that his live stream would remain down for the day.

“Doc and family are safe,” the message said in part.

Baggs, the sheriff’s lieutanant, said investigators have not confirmed the shootings were intentional nor have they identified any suspects.

Beahm is one of the most popular streamers on Twitch, and his live streams regularly attract tens of thousands of viewers. His return to Twitch after a two month hiatus in December and January garnered nearly 400,000 views.
