Teesha Moore is a mixed-media artist, creating visual journal pages and collaged artworks. She is one of my favourite mixed media artists. I was first introduced to her work in year 10 Art GCSE and have been influenced and inspired by her since. She created ‘Zettiology’, a line of rubber stamps and collage sheets featuring her work. Art journaling is a form of self-expression using various mixed media techniques, such as collage, transfers and pen work.
Teesha’s work is eclectic and whimsical. I love how her work consists of objects found around the house to create an entirely new piece of work. Her journal pages can often work as individual pieces and despite the fact that initially her pages seem very personal, in reality any one looking at her work can find meaning in her pages.
The colour schemes she choses to use are vibrant and bright. However she uses a great deal of white in the final stages of her work to add emphasis and definition. Examining her colour schemes always make me feel uplifted and re-inspired. These colour schemes and design aspects can connect with fashion styling and in some ways graphic design and help me to envisage new design pieces and textures, despite the fact that she is not involved in these areas of expertise.
Teesha Moore enjoys the process more than the end result and is herself inspired by all kinds of books, from children’s books to graphic design books. She creates from her intuition, exposing herself in a way that impresses me but also scares me as a graphic designer, as I am not ready to be so open about my personal thoughts and beliefs.
Most of her work is untitled as it is part of her art journal pages. This particular journal entry is one that inspires me as I find its texture detailing and use of pattern stimulates me to imagine many more ideas for designs and experimenting with mixed media methods. This image helps to show different ways to present illustrations, for example combining many different types of images in a collage and drawing the final illustration on top. Also in using pens to draw on top of the original collaged imagery, even small portions of her photo image can be used as new inspiration for designs.
I enjoy the fantasy elements of her work. She creates these pages as an escape from the reality of every day life. In this we are somewhat similar in that I also on occasion drift off into my own fantasy world and create my own journal entries. This journal entry of Teesha Moore’s sparked off many ideas for although I don’t do fashion design, I can envisage head pieces which could be worn for a somewhat avant-garde look on a catwalk.
All in all Teesha Moore’s pieces of work have inspired me in many ways since I discovered her. She is a very prolific artist which means that whenever I visit her blog I continue to find new and old pieces of work that spark some new design ideas and colour combinations in me.
