Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker star Keri Russell has landed a big new Netflix project, in which she'll both star and executive produce.

The Zori Bliss actress, who previously starred in The Americans and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, has teamed up with Homeland and The West Wing boss Debora Cahn for an eight-part series called The Diplomat.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the plot will see Russell as a diplomat named Kate Wyler who lands a high-profile assignment that she really doesn't have the skills for – in the middle of an international crisis too.

Apparently this thriller will chronicle how she tries to fight for both her marriage and her political future through all of the mess.

Another project Russell has in the pipeline is a science-fiction drama called Wyrd, which she is executive producing and will star her The Americans co-star and partner Matthew Rhys (we're sure she'll make at least a cameo).

But what we're really excited for is Cocaine Bear, which Russell is leading. As the title implies, it's about a wild bear that comes across a stash of cocaine and what happens after it inadvertently ingests it all.

It's directed by comedian, Charlie's Angels helmer and The Hunger Games actress Elizabeth Banks, and even more incredibly, it's based on something that happened in real life.

Meanwhile, Netflix has finally announced when season 4 of its huge original series Stranger Things will be dropping, revealing that the show will be coming out in two parts, premiering on May 27 and July 1 this year respectively. The streaming giant also announced that the series will finish for good with its fifth season.

Joe Anderton is a freelance news writer and resident Welsh person at Digital Spy, having worked there since 2016.

In his time he's covered a host of live events, interviewed celebrities big and small and crowbarred a countless amount of great/awful (delete as appropriate) puns into articles.

A big fan of TV and movies both mainstream and obscure, Joe's main interest is in video gaming. Although particularly a PlayStation gamer, he plays across Xbox, Nintendo and PC/Steam Deck, and likes to keep tabs on many games he's not got the time to play.

Joe currently does not use Twitter, but he only ever used it to tell people to watch the film Help! I'm a Fish (which you really should do).
