Can anyone please stop that rain? Flood in Poland
We had hardly coped with the tragedy of the presidential plane in Smolensk when another disaster struck. Poland has been fighting with rains and floods for two weeks. The death toll has risen to 15. People have been evacuated, some farm animals have drowned, many houses (unfortunately many belonging to rather poor people) have been covered up to the roof with water. The situation is really bad and the problem is that people living in villages threatened with flooding cannot afford paying high insurance premiums and since they've lost everything, they'll have to begin everything from scratch. Many of them are old farmers without any perspectives. I feel so lucky and guilty at the same time - my family, my home and my belongings are safe.

Issabela, in my region, food flood and other natural disasters usually occur. And the aftermath is the loss of people's lives, wealthies, etc.
The weather forecast has been improved, but it can only cease the loss of such disasters.
At this time, I hope people in my region can do something good for Polish people who are facing flood.
I wish that future scientists' researches can protect us as well as our houses, our relatives, our pets and our own land better from flood.
Issa! I didn't know about this at all! How awful that you all are going through this. It's something that happened in in Nashville Tennessee area here last month, and it's so devastating.
You and your countrymen will be in my prayers.
These are natural disasters over which we have no control, we can only send to you our heart felt sorrow at your losses and pray that it will soon end . The sun will shine again and all will be well ,our love and thoughts are with you .
Oh, that's terrible!!
I know what you mean when you say "villages threatened with flooding cannot afford paying high insurance premiums" and it breaks my heart.
Thanks for letting us know the situation. They will be in my thoughts and prayers today.
Issabela, I had no idea it was "that" bad there. What a terrible disaster.
In your post you said "I feel so lucky and guilty at the same time"...
It is very normal in disasters, that the people who are not involved in the disaster feel "guilty".
However, this is a misguided emotion. Feel "blessed", and pray for the people who are involved in the disaster.
It is not your "fault" that you "got lucky".
The best you can do is to pray, and if there are other things you can do to help, like donating food, clothing, money, etc., that would help the people in the disaster and also give you the feeling that you are doing all that you can to help curtail the time it will take for things to get "back to normal".
You certainly have the prayers and support of everyone here.
Hi Issabela , I know exactly how you feel. Even in india, we have floods in Orissa almost every year.
Every thing will be alright soon. My prayers and thoughts are with you and all the polish people.
When I lived near the Ohio River I was always surprised when people returned to the same flood prone area. Not building in a flood plain is the only way to avoid being flooded out on a routine basis.
I do not read the news much but am surprised that I was unaware of the flooding problem. Maybe the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has pushed that aside.
Not to make light of a horrible situation, but...
It could be worse, I could have posted James Morrison's Please Don't Stop the Rain.
I heard on the news Issa, but only after looking at the photos you posted, I realise how bad it must be:(
I'm terribly sorry for all the people who lost everything in the floods and I will pray to God to give them strength to rebuild their lives...
No matter the hardship, they must preserve their faith in God and in the new begginings...
¡¡¡¡Ya está bien de catástrofes!!!!,.Un beso.Meli
