Lijnbaan, Rotterdam, The NetherlandsMore information:
The Lijnbaan was the first purpose-built pedestrian shopping street in Europe, constructed soon after the Second World War to replace shops that had been flattened by German bombing. It was designed by the architectural firm of Van den Broek and Bakema (architects Jo van den Broek and Jacob Bakema) and opened in 1952. It has been an influential forerunner of many other traffic free shopping precincts.
